Why we all need a little tea ritual
Posted on April 10 2025,
When the world or my mind goes hundred miles an hour, tea gives me a pause. Waiting for the water to boil, measuring a teaspoon, and steeping it. While the tea steeps, I journal. Sometimes I put away the clean dishes. The best part is holding the warm cup and smelling the tea.
This is my tea ritual, a small, intentional pause that gently reminds me to breathe. Knowing that I will be more grounded and ready to handle it all the chaos allows me to take a guilt free break.
When I blend teas, I consider more than flavor, it’s about how and why someone will drink that tea. Is it for a specific health benefit, or are they trying to build a new habit? Would it be the early morning few minutes of me-time, or a wind-down moment after a long day?
Tea rituals can be as simple or elaborate as you like. What matters is the intention, taking few minutes to center yourself. To steep, sip, and be still.
How to start your own tea ritual?
Start small. You don’t need fancy teaware or an hour for the ritual, just a few minutes where you show up for yourself.
Here’s a simple one to try:
- Boil water mindfully, no multitasking.
- Choose your tea blend based on how you feel.
- While it steeps, journal, meditate, or daydream
- Once tea is steeped, hold it in both hands, smell it, and sip slowly. Just you and your tea.
